Get Tested and Checked for Chlamydia and Gonorrhea STD? Do it online with Lemonaid Health!

Lemonaid Health recently created a new sexually transmitted disease (STD) service that allows Americans to get tested and checked for chlamydia and gonorrhea, the two most common bacterial causes of STDs.  It is a simple urine test that screens for both chlamydia and gonorrhea. Did you know?

According to the US Preventive Services Task Force, all sexually active women ages 24 and younger should have a urine test to screen for chlamydia.  Women in this age group are at increased risk for this infection. 3 out of 4 women who have the infection have no symptoms! If not treated, it can cause complications including more a serious infection and infertility as well as passing it to her partner.

If you are a women age 24 or younger, be sure to get tested either Lemonaid Health for about $55  or use your insurance and see a doctor or OB/GYN.

Now insurance companies often remind women in this age group to get tested. However unfortunately not all women do so. According to the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) report in 2016, less than half of women were checked at rates with private HMO insurance (47.4 %) and private fee for service or PPO insurance (43.4 %). Women with Medicaid insurance did slightly better (55.2 %).

It is also recommended that sexually active women ages 25 and older be screened for chlamydia especially if women have any of the following risk factors:

Patients who test positive for chlamydia can get treatment with either 1000 mg of azithromycin antibiotic or doxycycline 100 mg twice a day. Azithromycin is taken all at once with four 250 mg pills. Doxycycline is taken twice a day for a week.

Patients who test positive for gonorrhea will need an antibiotic injection and will need to see a doctor in person. Gonorrhea is resistant to oral antibiotics and for cure, treatment with an antibiotic injection is recommended and the standard of care.
